Dear Bull Run Middle School Community,

The PWCS School Board met on Wednesday, October 7 and our Superintendent, Dr. Steve Walts provided updates to our Return to Learn plan for the second quarter.  I would encourage you to review and read the Superintendent's updates on the PWCS website at https://www.pwcs.edu/news/what_s_new/dr__walts__second_quarter_update.

Monday, October 12 is a school-wide professional development day for staff and there is no school for students.  Teachers will not be holding office hours on Monday.  Students can continue to review classwork and make up missed assignments if needed on October 12.  This is a good opportunity for students to catch up on any missing assignments and review upcoming assessments and projects that will be due in the future.  The end of the first marking period is October 29, so this is a good time to check ParentVue and review your child's grades.

Bull Run Middle School will be announcing the start of virtual clubs next week.  I encourage students to watch the Eagle News broadcast for the announcements and check our website for information.  The following clubs will be starting soon:  Principal's Advisory Council (student representatives from each homeroom), Best Buddies, Art clubs (with Sample and Knouse), Eagle News, National Junior Honor Society, and the No Place for Hate club.  These clubs are scheduled to start during November when the second marking period begins.  We will be adding additional clubs in the future.

The staff and I appreciate your feedback and positive words of encouragement that have been shared over the last few weeks.  We use this feedback to improve our work and we view the virtual learning experience as a working partnership between students, parents, and the school.  Based on your feedback, we will be sending out instructional videos for parents to use to enhance the experience and navigation of the Canvas platform.  The staff will also be working on streamlining our approach for consistent tools being used in the Canvas modules.  Even though the virtual experience will never replace in-person learning, we truly strive to provide a World-Class virtual experience.

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend and that you and your family have a chance to enjoy the beautiful fall weather.

Sincerely,
Matthew Phythian,
Principal
