What is a School Social Worker?
School Social Work Services are designed to promote educationally, psychologically and socially healthy school environments to optimize student learning. The School Social Worker's primary function is to provide direct intervention in the school setting and to coordinate community based resources for students and their families.
Here at Bull Run Middle School, the School Social Worker:
Is a Licensed Social Worker who ensures student achievement by promoting academic, social and emotional functioning.
Works collaboratively with all stakeholders in an effort tomobilize the resources of the school and community to meet the needs ofstudents and their families.
Provides intervention, consultation, and counseling for studentsreferred by themselves, their parents, school staff, or communityagencies to address obstacles adversely affecting their academicperformance.
Participates as a member of the Intervention Team and workscollaboratively with parents and school personnel to address barriers tostudent performance.
Participates in the special education process by identifying andproviding services to students with disabilities that requirespecialized instruction.
