Welcome to our Physical Science Class! Below you will find useful information about our class and remember you are always welcome to email me with any questions!

About Mrs. Horning:
Relocation brought my family of five to Northern Virginia when my husband concluded his military career and I was excited to be able continue teaching Middle School Science her in Virginia. The transient nature of military life afforded me a unique opportunity to teach in multiple states. This experience has been a tremendous asset giving me exposure to different science curriculums, state testing requirements, and teaching styles, which has in turn helped me become a better teacher. Additionally, I am certified for Middle Grade Science 6-8 and Elementary K-6 in Virginia. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Poultry Science with a minor in Biology and I also hold a Master of Arts in Education  K-8. My experiences include 11 years of teaching Middle Grades Science and 1 year teaching Elementary School. I am passionate about teaching science in a relatable, technology driven, hands-on way to engage all types of learners. I am excited to have an opportunity to share that passion with the students at Bull Run Middle School.

Materials Needed For Class:
100 page Composition Notebook
3-5 Glue Sticks
2 Scotch Tape Rolls

Flipped Classroom Learning:
This year we are using a Flipped Classroom approach to many of our notes.
What does that mean? This means that students will be watching pre-recorded lessons on devices and filling in their notes.
What are the Benefits?  The teacher is free to offer individual assistance and check for understanding. This also means notes are available online for students from their homes when they need help or miss school.

Communication:
We will be using Class Dojo this year for Student Participation Feedback and Rewards.  Students will see real time updates on their effort and conduct. Parents also have access to view their students day to day conduct. Please take a moment to log onto classdojo.com and enter your personal Class Dojo code so you can join us and stay up to date. Class Dojo personal codes will be sent home within the first 2 weeks of school.

School Messenger will be used as well for communication with parents. Help for parents using School Messenger can be found below.
