Our Bull Run Middle School PTSO has four Executive Member positions and several Chair Positions. The four Executive Member positions are chosen through a formal nomination process early in the school year. Here are descriptions for each role:
President
- Presides at all meetings of the PTSO
- Performs all duties outlined in the bylaws
- Primary contact for school principal
- Represents PTSO at outside meetings
- Coordinates work of all the officers and committee chairs
Vice President
- Performs the duties of the President in the absence or inability of that office
- Assists in presiding over all meetings of the PTSO
Secretary
- Records the minutes of all the PTSO meetings and prepares monthly meeting agenda
- Maintains PTSO documents including bylaws
Treasurer
- Custodian of PTSO funds
- Presents financial report at monthly PTSO meetings
- Keeps full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures
- Maintains and reconciles bank accounts
- Makes disbursements as authorized by the president or Board in accordance with the approved budget
- Assists with external audit and provides school bookkeeper with information needed for school audit
- Responsible for maintaining the electronic credit card payment account for PTSO.

- Concessions
- Lending your time to help sell snacks and drinks at the school during the student home games, such as basketball, football and volleyball.
- Box Tops:
- October and February Contests; prizes given (individually or by homeroom); collect at school, count and submit to Box Tops for Education.
- Teacher Appreciation:
- Coordinating meals/store donations for Back to School nights (Sept), and teacher appreciation week (May).
- Membership:
- Help parents sign up for PTSO during rising sixth-grader night in April and back to school nights in September. Stuff membership forms in Eagle Folders before school starts.
- Membership Database:
- Inputting any hard-copy membership forms received. Following up on members who request to be put on a committee, or have an email bounce back.
- Bingo:
- Typically in November and February. Prizes, supplies, concessions.
- Spirit Wear:Taking and fulfilling spirit wear orders and selling during rising 6th grade night, new student orientation and other PTSO events.
- Volunteer Coordinator:
- Create Sign Up Genius lists for any PTSO activity needing student or adult volunteers.
- Rewards Program Coordination:
- To include Giant, Harris Teeter, etc. Will help determine how to enroll PTSO members, whether re-enrollment is necessary every year and follow up to monitor new sign-ups are occurring.
- Spirit Nights:
- Determine local businesses available to offer “Spirit Nights” with Bull Run Middle School where a portion of sales or profits will be given.
- Fundraising:
- Evaluate other options available to Bull Run PTSO to help provide new products or services to Bull Run Families i.e. holiday ornaments, poinsettia sales, etc.
- Eighth Grade Picnic:
- Coordination of the June picnic with food, drinks, games, etc.
- Bulletin Board/Display Case:
- Located within school lobby – updated to promote PTSO events.
- Website and Communications:
- Update to inform PTSO members on any news and/or events. Includes promoting activities on Facebook page.
