Principal's Message

August 25, 2023

Dear Bull Run Middle School Community,

We have had a great start to the school and the first week has been very successful. It has been such a pleasure to see our returning students and meet our 6th grade students. Our students have been learning about expectation and rountine during the first week of school. We have also reviewed our crisis management and emergency drill information this week. We conducted a fire drill this week and the students handled the drill very well and were very attentive to directions and procedures. We will be implementing our new security screening technology in October and I will keep you updated of the implementation date and procedures.

If you would like to access any of the presentations that we shared with the students this week, you may visit your child Canvas page under the Advisory class.

I am very excited to announce the BRMS One Book, One School program. This is the announcment for the book:

Introducing our One Book, One School selection for the 2023 school year: Alone, by Megan Freeman.

You won’t want to miss this thrilling, fast-paced adventure story. Click here for a synopsis, reviews, and a list of awards Alone has won.

Each student will receive a copy of Alone to keep on August 28. Students will have opportunities to read during advisory classes at the beginning of the school year, and they are welcome to take their books home to share with their families. Look in the BRMS weekly newsletters for dinner table conversation starters for families who want to read together!

We will culminate our shared reading experience with a virtual author visit the morning of November 9.

If you every have any questions or concerns, please call the school at 703-753-9969 or visit our school’s website. You may also send me an email.

Sincerely,

Matthew Phythian,
