Civility~Achievement~Honor

Bull Run's Positive Behaviors, Intervention and Support (PBIS) program is aptly named SOAR, which emphasizes Civility, Achievement, and Honor within the school and community. The program uses tiered interventions and positive support to improve student behavior in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and on the bus. Teachers and staff review and reinforce behavioral expectations with students throughout the school year.

The SOAR program uses a variety of strategies and interventions to promote positive student behavior including:

  • SOAR cards given by staff that can be redeemed for small rewards
  • Grade Level and Team recognition of students who exhibit outstanding behavior,
  • Early parent notification
  • Alternative consequences to out-of-school suspension
  • Bus incident tracking and reduction program
  • Student intervention plans (SIP)
  • 'Behavior snapshots'- Record of student behavior

The school administration and SOAR committee work together to review data on student behavior and adapt the program to the social, emotional, and academic needs of students over time. The committee uses this data to create weekly class meetings during advisory to target specific issues.
