Ellen Slobodnik

Ms. Ellen Slobodnik will be joining the BRMS staff as our new Assistant Principal for the 2023-2024 school year, replacing Moneka Coats who recently joined the Stafford school division. 

Ellen Slobodnik recently served as an Assistant Principal at College Park Academy in Prince George's County Public Schools for the past two years. Before that she was an Instructional Lead Teacher for three years after teaching middle school Social Studies for six years. Ms. Slobodnik has helped design a rigorous and individualized educational program, collaborated with the school community to create a welcoming and supportive climate, and provided instructional support for teachers, specifically in the area of Blended Learning.

Ms. Slobodnik graduated from the University of Maryland for both her Graduate and Undergraduate degrees. She holds her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. During her eleven years with PGCPS in Maryland, she has held such roles as Athletic Director, Grade Manager, Master Scheduler, Testing Coordinator, and Department Chair. She is passionate about equity, educational technology, and serving the school community.

Ms. Slobodnik is a recent Virginia transplant, moving from Maryland to Manassas Park. She considers herself a foodie and loves trying all food. She loves music and traveling, especially to the beach. As a Marylander, she loves her UMD Terrapins, Baltimore Ravens, and crabs. 

Ms. Slobodnik is a great listener, exceptional communicator, and a quick-thinking problem solver. Seeing and engaging with the students daily is what motivates her. She wants to make sure that all students are able to be successful in whatever they choose to do. She wants to empower the students and the community and so she is very excited for the opportunity to help lead the school and build meaningful relationships with the students, staff, and community stakeholders.
